Rinse the basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear.

In a pot, combine the basmati rice with 400g of water and a pinch of salt. Bring to a boil, then reduceheat and simmer for 15 minutes or until all the water is absorbed.

In a pan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and minced garlic, sauté until translucent.

Add beef mince to the pan, breaking it apart with a spatula. Cook until browned, seasoning with pepper and optionally soy sauce.

If using, stir in green peas and cook for an additional 5 minutes.

Serve the beef mixture over the cooked basmati rice.
